Admiralty Arch becomes a luxury hotel

Hotels Wellness

A collaboration between renowned interior decorator David Mlinaric and architect Michael Blair of Blair Associates promises to transform one of London’s most iconic buildings into a luxury hotel like no other

It was built in 1910 as a working monument to the British Navy and a memorial to Queen Victoria and was home in the past to Sir Winston Churchill, Lord Mountbatten and Lord Hailsham. Now Admiralty Arch, located on The Mall in St James’s and regarded as the gatehouse to Buckingham Palace, is set to become a hotel and spa, along with a private members’ club. The Grade 1 listed building will also include four exclusive serviced residences available for sale, each comprising several suites, six-metre high ceilings, intricate crests, original fireplaces and fittings from the Edwardian era, or has the option to become one giant residence for one buyer – effectively becoming the largest serviced residence in London.

Overseeing the restoration by Prime Investors Capital is renowned interior decorator David Mlinaric, whose past projects include the Royal Opera House, National Portrait Gallery, Victoria & Albert Museum and British Embassies in Paris and Washington; and architect Michael Blair of Blair Associates, responsible for the renovation of  The Connaught and Claridge’s. An extraordinary team of British artisans is now working on restoring the original architect Sir Aston Webb’s designs and creating the future hotel rooms and designs for the serviced residences including Linley, George Spencer Fabrics, Arthur Brett, Soane Britain, Collier Webb and Chesney’s.

At least 12 premier hotel groups from around the world have expressed interest in managing the property, and the operator of the hotel is expected to be chosen in 2017, now that building work and the restoration of Admiralty Arch is underway.
