It could be your home-away-from-home in Mayfair, central London. Opposite Green Park and Buckingham Palace is just down the road. The Royal Academy almost on the doorstep and so close to world-renowned shops and theaters. This is the ultimate luxury travel destination.
When entering the hotel, the staff were very friendly and I enjoyed not standing at a reception desk. There isn’t one! Instead of approaching ‘the wall’ as I regard reception desks, a very smiley front of house man greeted me. I immediately felt like a guest rather than a passenger checking in for a flight. The hotel has thought outside the box on how to best greet their guests on arrival and from my point of view, it was a very good experience. It certainly set the tone for our short stay.
‘Following a multi-million-pound refurbishment and with Michelin-starred chefs The Galvin Brothers at the culinary helm, The Athenaeum Hotel & Residences has entered an exciting new era’
The restaurant is run by Michelin-starred chefs; The Galvin brothers. It now has two rosettes but unfortunately on this occasion there wasn’t the opportunity to experience it. Next time I hope! There is also a fine bar – home to a large collection of fine whiskies and signature cocktails and we did have the chance to experience this, late in the evening after a long day. We found it to be a perfect balance of cool and sophisticated with very attentive and knowledgeable staff. My Manhattan, possibly the best I’ve enjoyed, was served in such a beautiful glass it went down rather too well. Another was soon on it’s way!
‘We pride ourselves on offering tailor-made, child-friendly services without compromising on five-star luxury. Our dedicated Children’s Concierge is here to keep your little ones happy and entertained – whether it is delving into our Toy Store, arranging a kite-flying session in Hyde Park or making sure milk and biscuits are waiting at bedtime. We also have a fantastic team of Nannies and Babysitters on standby to take care of your children should you fancy a shopping trip or much-deserved night out’. Says the Athenaeum Hotel.
Good morning London, it’s great to be here!
Our room was very well appointed with an extremely welcome living area which had some wonderfully individual touches to the decor. The Queen’s guard and London Taxi figurines are on display next to the beds, which is a great playful touch and gives the rooms a true British feel. Contemporary style that feels bespoke with individual furniture and the best quality bed linen and towels. A very comfy bed was just the place to recharge for the next day. The next morning, refreshed, I opened the curtains to a view across Green Park. ‘Good morning London, it’s great to be here!’
