Twenty years on from McLaren’s momentous victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995, McLaren has unveiled a brand-new limited-edition release of its stunning 650S

McLaren’s design team has been known to conceal a story behind each one of its models. In collaboration with British car designer Peter Stevens, McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has now revealed the brand-new McLaren 650S Le Mans, set for release mid-2015.
The new 641-bhp road car harkens back to a historic success for the McLaren team at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans, where five McLaren GTRs crossed the finish line in 1st, 3rd, 4th and 13th place. With a number of augmentations, inspired by the classic GTR, the limited-edition 650S features ‘Le Mans Edition’ lightweight wheels and a roof-mounted ‘snorkel’ air intake, which burrows down into the 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 engine.
“With a mix of subtle design traits,” Peter Stevens explains, “the 650S Le Mans adds a modern twist by blending the iconic lines of the McLaren F1, and heritage features such as the wing louvres and the roof-mounted air intake, with groundbreaking technologies.”
The metallic Sarthe Grey exterior is offset with a touch of iconic McLaren orange on the break callipers. The interior is awash with sleek black leather, with Orange Alcantara® embodied into the middle of two sports seats.
The McLaren 650S Le Mans will be available internationally later in the year, priced at £244,500. With only 50 cars available, owners of the 650S Le Mans will receive an ultra-exclusive invitation, plus a guest, to the official 20th anniversary celebration, courtesy of McLaren.
