One of the world’s rarest beers arrives in London

Drinks Feast

Deemed one of the rarest in the world, a single bottle of Methuselah beer has been exclusively delivered to one privileged London store. Developed over the course of 18 months, from cork to punt, Sourced Market St Pancras are the recipients of a sincerely unique piece of artisan craftsmanship

As you may have already gathered, this is not your average green-bottle lager. With only six available in the entire world, and at £800 a piece, it won’t be long before one lucky Londoner soon snatches this for themselves.

Aptly named Everything in Moderation and distilled by British brewing masters Savour, this bespoke behemoth of a beer comes in a whopping six-litre bottle at 10.5% ABV (this is the equivalent of 10-and-a-half pints). Experts and admirers are naming it a “Champagne-style beer” after noting its peculiar distillation process, often more attributed to the brewing of sparkling wines.

Using malted British barley, hops and three yeast strains, the beer is fermented in numerous 750ml decanters for 100 days before it is transported into its final Methuselah-sized bottle.

“The idea came from a trip to Belgium back in 2009,” notes Ben O’Brien, founder of Sourced market. “Where I fell in love with the respect and passion people had for beer over there. They drink beer like the French drink wine, and I wanted to bring that attitude towards beer to Britain. The Methuselah will hopefully raise Britain’s admiration for fine brews.”

Savour’s creator and founder, Sandy Kirpatrick, described Everything in Moderation as “one of the tastiest beers on the planet”. With a smooth and distinctly vivacious fizz, its palate rings with delicious notes of caramel and honey. The finish is also a fairly resilient one.
