Six magical Christmas windows

Stores Style

There is nothing quite as magical as a spell of London Christmas shopping during the festive season. From Harrods to Selfridges, Dan Cooper rounds up the best Christmas windows at some of the world’s most famous luxury stores

Liberty London
Paying tribute to the store’s founder, this Christmas Liberty London enshrines Sir Arthur Liberty’s renowned travels across the globe in a nautically themed window display. Exhibiting the copious amounts of gifts and goods they’ve offered over generations, Liberty names its display “The Store That Launched a Thousand Gifts”.

Fenwick
In collaboration with Irving Berlin’s White Christmas the Musical, Fenwick has brought to life a Christmas card tableaux at its Bond Street store, presenting what managing director David Walker-Smith calls the “most important” ideals of Christmas: family, love and friendship.

Harvey Nichols
With mannequins festooned and swathed in some this season’s most exclusive collections, including Alexander McQueen and Maison Martin Margiela, Harvey Nichols takes on the theme of The Enchanted Forest this Christmas, reviving the dreamlike magic of the festive season.

Selfridges
Revisiting the fairytale quality of Christmas, each of Selfridges’ Christmas windows reimagines a classic children’s story. From Paddington Bear to Little Boy Blue, the Oxford Street store puts a characteristically Selfridges spin on each narrative, including the not-so-ugly ducking and a dip-dyed Rapunzel.

Fortnum & Mason
Bedecked in opulent silver and glimmering hoarfrost, Fortnum & Mason has labelled its windows this year “Frost Fayre”. Harkening back to the Thames’ “frost fairs” of the 16th century, Fortnum & Mason introduces a fundamentally traditional display reminiscent of a time when Christmas was less about shopping and more about giving.

Harrods
Accompanied by their first animated film, Harrods has titled its much-anticipated display The Land of Make Believe. Inspired by the phantasmal landscapes of Scandinavia and all things traditional about Christmas, Harrods have created a magical woodland of luxury scattered with a charming cast of busy white mice.
