The A-Z of elite dating: K is for kissing

Introduction Agency Office

A kiss is the ultimate expression of affection, romance and of course love, says Susie Ambrose, Founder of elite dating agency Seventy Thirty

K is for kissing

Evolutionary psychologists define the importance of kissing as ‘mate assessment’. According to a study conducted by Hughes, Harrison and Gallup, a kiss is used to determine whether a particular person is worthy of being future partner material.

The best kissers are more likely to be chosen as life partners. Kissing behaviour dictates that a passionate kiss evokes a sensation of arousal, leading to expressive feelings of bonding and attachment. Therefore, on an evolutionary, physical, sexual and emotional level, kissing is a deeply meaningful act.

There is no specific time frame from meeting someone to going in for the first kiss — it’s about using your interpersonal skills to detect verbal and non-verbal cues from your partner and finding the moment when they want you to kiss you!

Most of this delicate communication is done through body language, and the right time will be when you start mirroring each other’s behaviour, i.e. making deep eye contact for longer than normal, being a little more flirtatious, making more physical contact and even making subtle hints that you’re interested. Catch them unaware and they’ll think that you can’t control your hormones (a clear sign of immaturity). Leave them waiting too long and they may start to look somewhere else.
