Summer may not quite be over yet but a little forward planning never hurt anyone. Here’s our round-up of the best British luxury getaways for autumn, from a brand-new boutique barge to the hottest new hotel openings in town (and country)…

Zetter Townhouse, Marylebone
The hotly anticipated Zetter Townhouse Marylebone opened its doors this month and is the latest addition to The Zetter Group’s Townhouse boutique hotel family. The 24-bedroom Georgian townhouse feels more like the private home of an eccentric relative than a conventional hotel and features a spectacular Rooftop Apartment, with a roof terrace in addition to its 21 bedrooms, two studio suites, and cocktail lounge.

Number 38 Clifton, Bristol
Within walking distance of Brunel’s iconic Suspension Bridge, the newly opened Number 38 Clifton is a double-fronted Georgian merchant house which has been completely refurbished over the last 18 months to offer ten stunning bedrooms. Spilling down the hillside, the views from the rear extend across the Clifton rooftops – and the terrace provides a peaceful sun-trap. Rooms start from £100 for a double, bed and breakfast.

10 Castle Street, Dorset
If you’re looking for a new luxurious country club from which to base both your social and business lives, 10 Castle Street on the edge of Cranborne Chase, a favourite hunting ground of medieval kings, could be the answer. After two years of planning, it will soon be opening its doors to provide a private members’ club with rooms alongside a public restaurant, bar and garden terrace. The garden will feature installations by Hamish Mackie which will include the sixth Andalusian Stallion.

Bert’s Barges, Regents Canal, Hackney
How about floating away from it all in this new one-bedroom boutique barge, with fully fitted kitchen, flat-screen TV, underfloor heating, wood-burning stove and a large bathroom with walk-in Agape shower. Think duck-down duvets and pillows and the finest bed linens – this is decadent barge living on a sleek designed, purpose-built vessel, equipped to ensure the comfiest of stays. Prices for an overnight stay on board start from £250 per night for two people sharing.

Batty Langley’s, London
Brought to you by the people behind Hazlitts and the Rookery, the curiously named Batty Langley’s, a five-minute walk from Shoreditch High Street, has the atmosphere of a long-established aristocratic household. Rooms are traditionally furnished, with panelled walls and mellow old furniture, period pictures and rugs, while modern features include flat-screen television (well disguised) with Apple and media hub technology.

Aynhoe Park, Oxfordshire
If you’re planning a weekend house party this autumn and want something a little out of the ordinary, Aynhoe Park, which is set in acres of Capability Brown landscaped parkland and has 12 private bedrooms, will surely fit the bill. We love its British eccentricity, from its collection of taxidermy – think giraffes and ostriches – and all manner of other curios.
