Eight great garden pieces, from copper planters to fine oak furniture

David Harber’s sundials and water sculptures make strong statements in the garden. One of his newest designs is the elegant Volante, a tall, slim water feature made from verdigris bronze with a vertical stainless-steel water canal – ideal as a focal point in any sized garden. The Volante is 170cm tall and costs £9,730 plus VAT.

A pair of top-quality boots is essential for any gardener, and the Dubarry Clare boot (£325) gets my top vote. The knee-high suede and leather boot is fully waterproof and lined with Gore-Tex so that your feet stay dry and warm whatever the weather.

Everyone dreams of having a shepherd’s hut at the end of the garden, and Plankbridge’s Writer’s Hut would fit into all but the tiniest space. With bespoke fixtures and fittings, including oak window frames, door and floor, it is a shrunk-down version of their full-sized shepherd’s hut at only 2.4m long and 1.5m wide. Prices start at £10,740.

Less is more when it comes to outdoor furniture. Designed by garden designer Arne Maynard, this beautiful oak table and bench set (£4,500 for the table and £2,500 per bench) creates a simple statement with its strong, clean lines. Hand-crafted using traditional technique, the furniture will weather beautifully as it ages.

Ever since I saw the beautiful brick maze created by Adrian Fisher at Greys Court near Henley, I have wanted one in my own garden. Fisher is known as the world’s leading maze designer, and can conjure up labyrinths and mazes in brick, paving, hedging or water.
