The British beauty industry is secretly on the rise. Where once virtually everything we bought had to be pronounced with a comedy French accent, now homegrown luxurious and innovative beauty brands and concepts are popping up all over. Two women at the front of establishing Britain’s beauty credentials are Anna-Marie Solwij, former beauty editor of British Vogue, and Millie Kendall MBE, of Ruby & Millie fame, awarded her honour for services to the cosmetic industry. Between them they have created BeautyMART, a one-stop beauty shop (both virtual and real – they can be found in Harvey Nichols among other places) that cherry picks the best of beauty, as well as being chock full of their formidable insider knowledge, says Emma Bannister
Here’s The BB Edit’s guide to the beauty must-haves that will be filling your bathroom shelves in 2015 and the best ways to beat the January beauty blues…
Superlatively glowing skin
Individual skin treatment sheets are the way to proceed this 2015. Forget gunky clays, the sheer delicacy and prettiness of these cellulose cloth skin beautifiers from The Skin Lounge will have you devoted in moments. A set of three Skin Lounge Sheets cost £18.
Impactful lashes
Our lashes have tested hundreds of the can’t-live-without beauty item, mascara. Top of the league to up the ante on your lashes, try Code Beautiful VLM Volumising Lengthening Mascara, £19.95.
Ornamental skin decorations
Temporary skin art has just made British Vogue‘s 2015 trend list and we have the Divine Ink brand. As the days turn to spring and we ditch the chunky sweaters, try out these beautiful cuffs and chains.
Beautiful brows
There’s no let-up in that Burberry girl’s ripple effect – big brows à la Cara are all over the catwalks next season.
Freckles
This is a big trend for next season. We use James Read Bronzing Mousse. Dip the end of a make-up brush and dot over the nose and cheeks for long-lasting (we’re talking three days) freckles. £24.50.
And not so much in 2015…
Blemishes
We hate them, you hate them, fortunately we have found a gorgeously discreet and soothing way to address any stress or hormone-induced breakouts. Renowned facialist Sarah Chapman’s Spot Stickers are miniature translucent patches which help zap any offenders quickly and efficiently. £22
Overdone frown erasing
If you have become a little too dependent on the injectable stuff then we suggest you wean yourself away with these ingenious Frownline Patches from Realine Beauty, £28. Pop one on at nighttime to retrain your muscles as you sleep.
Badly applied tan
There are no excuses, especially not with Bronze Buffer (£10) that whisks away streaks in a trice.
