Wintery rooftops and festive pop-ups

Entertainment Feast Food

‘Tis the season… for festive pop-ups. Hugo Campbell-Davys from Urbanologie picks six of his favourites around town, from the rooftop cinema at the Berkeley to the chalet-inspired terrace at Coq D’Argent

Some Like It Hot, Roof Cinema, Berkeley Hotel

The Festive Winter Roof-Top Cinema
The Berkeley’s Health Club & Spa once again transforms its roof-top garden into a pine-filled forest cinema this winter. Adding a stylish sprinkle of rustic chic are three handmade wooden chalet-inspired cabins custom made to fit two people. With a hot chocolate in hand and wrapped up in a Moncler warm down feather blanket, guests will be protected from the cold while watching festive winter classics including Miracle on 34th Street and The Polar Express. Towering high above bustling Knightsbridge and overlooking Hyde Park, this pine-lined outdoor theatre is London’s only rooftop private cinema exclusively featuring just six seats. A special Winter Cinema package for Londoners is available at £65 per person and includes full access to the movie theatre at 5:00pm and 7.00pm seatings, with copious amounts of hot chocolate and home-made mince pies. A Luxury Winter Cinema package is available at £85 per person and includes a glass of Champagne and canapés.

Once Upon A wigwam festive pop-up

Once Upon A WigWam
Inspired by the Brothers Grimm fairy tales, Once Upon a WigWam is a unique drinking and dining experience. Wander up the vine-covered winding stairs and spot hundreds of books leading you to the giant keyhole entrance of the Queen of Hoxton’s magical land. Inside, a new tree house (with a raised mezzanine) elevates you even higher up East London’s iconic rooftop. Expect ornate mirrors and silhouettes of gnarly branches, and look out for watchful faces among the golden trees. Meander through hanging clocks and apples, branches laced with ivy and meadow flowers where you’ll find a gingerbread house-inspired bar. You can even gorge on the real gingerbread panels from time to time! Open Monday to Saturday from 4pm to 10pm.

Forest Restaurant & Cabin Bar on Selfridges Rooftop
Taking its inspiration from our ancient England autumnal woodland, Forest Restaurant & Cabin Bar offers sophisticated comfort food and seasonal cocktails beneath a starry sky. The Cabin Bar with outdoor lodges (above, complete with blankets and a bespoke photo-booth lodge), situated on the terrace is the perfect spot to escape and indulge in the roof’s renowned ‘Choctails’, seasonal ales and warming mulled wine and cider.

Lodge 'd"Argent

Lodge d’Argent
Bringing a touch of the Alps après-ski atmosphere to the City, Coq D’Argent has transformed its famed roof garden into a chalet-inspired terrace, with vintage ski props, luxurious furry blankets draped over the backs of chairs to keep you warm, miniature polar bears tucked inside stunning snow-globe-style jars on table tops, and green foliage lining the terrace. Tuck into a special indulgent holiday menu featuring fondue fun, tartiflette and a selection of croque dishes, as well as drinks including hot toddies and mulled wine.

Tree house at Sky Lounge

The Tree House at Sky Lounge
The stylish rooftop bar atop the DoubleTree Hilton at Tower Hill has launched its new winter terrace, ‘The Tree House at Sky Lounge’ – a mystical, enchanted woodland, set among the rooftops of the City, where rum cocktails and champagne flow freely. Embellished with fibre optics lights to create an intimate, sheltered space, guests can enjoy winter cocktails like Hot & Cold Spiced Toddy and warming winter food, such as Truffle Mac & Cheese.

Dinerama festive pop-ups
Dinerama
Held at a massive 1,000-capacity venue (the second largest licensed venue in Hackney) on Great Eastern Street in Shoreditch, Dinerama is the ultimate festive foodie experience. Settle on one of the communal benches and enjoy snacks from all-star traders such as B.O.B.’s Lobster, Kimchinary, BBQ Lab, Fundi Pizza, Yum Bun and Smokestak. The site has gained a roof for the chillier months, as well as four new bars (bringing the total to ten) which will serve everything from cans of craft beer to hot cocktails.
